Never was aware of the English English vs American English rule difference. Thanks for the insight. Still sounds wrong to my ears, though.

Enjoyed reading this, with the exception of the second sentence. In all the English language and rhetoric classes I ever took, things were never "different to". Things are either similar to another or different than / from another.
