I've had students running self-experiments for some time. I have always hoped that letting them choose their own experiments would increase their motivational investment, but that has not turned out to be generally observable. Maybe the camaraderie of joining a large-group experiment would work better. Maybe that would feel more 'real' to them.

Love this experiment! My husband and I would love to participate, but we don't use any fitness trackers. That said, if you (or the researchers) are looking for financial resources, consider Experiment.com! They're a crowdfunding platform for science research. I'm one of their reviewers, and I think this would go over pretty well over there :)
