A nice thought, but how do we reconcile it with the data on literacy and numeracy? For example, the refrain that half of Americans top out at a sixth grade reading level sounds like a meme, but is in fact true without caveats. See: OECD’s PIAAC tests and the (former) Dept. of Education’s analysis of it. There’s no sense in being contemptuous over traits people didn’t choose, but the problem exists and has implications for democracy.
