In the western provinces of Kenya there are many 'burials' (widely-attended funeral-type events) that a given person will attend every other weekend. I don't know if my perceived frequency of these events is an artifact of the fact that so many attend them, so that I'll hear about them more frequently. But I suspect a much higher fatality rate on a per capita basis than the US.
Anyway I've found it's generally useless to politely inquire from an attendee what caused the loss of the deceased individual. I wonder how these get recorded, or if they are recorded at all.
